Frank Lloyd Wright is remembered for more than his "nice drawings". His
influence from the Arts & Crafts movement in the 19th century and his
exquisite observation of the growth and patterns of Nature, all impacted
his design sense and application.
We were honored to have been asked by the Tom Venturella Studio to
participate in the detective work to restore one of Mr. Wright's hanging
lamp designs. As we say, a small project. The stem from which the lamp
hung from the ceiling was missing, and the only available reference to its
geometry was a small handful – two, really – of old photographs.
Through proportional analysis and some image filtering, we were able to
extract sufficient information from these sources so that Tom and his team
could reconstruct a stem from which the lamp could once again be hung.
